Lockwood Brass made their third trip to the French Open last weekend (11th June). After two previously successful years, the band made it three in a row by walking away with first place in the Second Division under the baton of John Roberts. For the main contest the set test piece was Partita for Band by Philip Wilby and this was performed along with the Euphonium solo Brilliante, Putting on the Ritz and the Finale from The Firebird.
Later in the day the hotly contested march competition got under way with bands from all the sections competing against each other. Lockwood marched into the square beneath the Chateaux in Amboise and performed the march Ravenswood in front of the appreciative crowd. The march competition was won by the Marsden Band for their performance of Honest Toil. Lockwood were placed sixth out of the nine competing bands.
There was a sad note for the band as this contest was the last for Eb Bass player Bruce Holloway. Bruce is moving out of the area due to work commitments and so the band wish him all the best for the future and hope to see him back soon.
