Below are the adjudications from the bands performance in the Second Section National Finals. The comments have been split up by movement to show what each adjudicator though of each movement. Confident to open but too many slips.
Decisive to start - but several 'clips' and bumps defer
Intonation with Flugel not always comfortable. Ensemble not all legato.
Flows well (I like the bass line here). Quite a good theme.
Bass line not always comfortable. 5. Again the intonation is suspect.
Flugel has grace and is unhurried. 4 accomps then to drown out euph/bari melodic line.
Well controlled musically but technically not always comfortable.
Sensible tempo and good attempt at pp (the first so far!), but not all production is clear and tidy.
Perhaps a shade more relaxed with the tempo? 9. basses not comfortable with in the section. Euph does well but again the tuning after 9 -> Var IV
Quite a good intro and euph really sings (accomps a little 'scratchy' and obtrusive at times). Euph 'dove tailing' of phrasing not always convincing, but some really nice stuff here.
Minim chords are not in tune, especially troms. Cornet does well. Good tempo.
Cor grace notes not secure but quite good solo.
Cornet just about makes it. Trom was that a Gb? Euph well done. 15. Again tuning - nearly a nice conclusion.
Almost cor, super euph, trom need to take time. Quite a good flourish to close. Quite good close to mov.
Again a sensible tempo. Balance in the rhythm parts not always good.
Not always clean and united in production, but dynamic contrasts well portrayed.
Phrasing could be more musical and I feel troms are rushing a shade. 23 - This more relaxed in tempo and better for it.
Well done troms. 22 is also well shaped and phrased, lots of good stuff here. just a shade untuneful 2/3 before finale.
Good stately tempo. Approach to 25 ensemble a little messy. Key change 26 is not comfortable. Bar 3 of 29 ff hold the sound to the bar line (legato minims). 32 Ensemble is untidy and not clear in bar 3.
Not quite consistent enough throughout.
Well sorted here, everything in it's place (just 27 a bit unsecure). Downbeat of 2 before 31 not convincing.
A bold and secure conclusion.
